Knight Signs "I Love You"

Our student of the month and for the Summer is Knight.  Knight’s grandmother Bernie introduced Knight to Kindermusik two years ago when he was 13 months old.  He started in a Village Class “Cock-A-Doodle-Moo.” Now at three Knight can sing the Kindermusik songs on pitch, move to a steady beat and interpret tempo and mood in music.
Here’s what Bernie has to tell us about Knight and his, “ Kindermusik Adventure.”:

Hello everyone! I would like to introduce you to a very special little boy ----my grandson, Knight. Knight is an only child and is also the only grandchild for his Oma and Opa as his mother Birgit is also an only child.

His Papa Kevin ( my youngest son)  has an older brother and two sisters, but what makes Knight’s family different is that his parents and both of his aunts are deaf.  Knight has been using Sign Language since he was a few months old.  This made him a very contented baby as he could tell his parents if he was hungry, tired, thirsty, cold etc. without needing to cry and parents playing the guessing game.

His parents always try to talk to him as well as signing so he is at three totally bilingual ! I use Sign also but try to focus on oral communication so as soon as I heard about Kindermusik we joined the program.  Knight attends the program with his mother just like the other children and I attend as interpreter for Brigit and Catherine.  Catherine would include signs in some of the activities and Knight is encouraged to sign for his Mother and other children.

Knight is now 31/2 and continues to love his Kindermusik class and meeting his friends every week.  Some of them have been together since their first class and music class is a social event.

Knight has a very lively imagination so he is especially enjoying the present program, “ Imagine That ! Toys I Make Trips I Take.” as he is encouraged to make good use of his imagination. He is also very interested in trying to help Grandmas with everything --- we are presently growing carrots at Grandma’s house.  Knight loves , music, books, airplanes, trains and anything fishy. Since he first saw, “ Finding Nimo,” he loves to see any TV shows or books about fish.  The highlight for him right now is Grandma’s DVD from  the  Maui Ocean Centre as it show all  the Hawaiian fish and has a pamphlet showing  the fish so he can identify the different species.
